ANP legislator of the provincial assembly Aurangzeb Khan and four other people were injured in a roadside bomb blast in the jurisdiction of Paharipura police station here on Wednesday. The victim, lawmaker is the younger bother of slain MPA Alamzeb Khan who was killed in the same roadside blast last year, was going to attend the death anniversary of Bacha Khan and Abdul Wali Khan at Nashtar Hall.

According to eye-witnesses the legislator was on way at Dalazak Road from his residence in Momin Town, but when he turned his motorcar towards the Ring Road a huge blast occurred. The blast also damaged the high power transmission line. He said thick smoke spread everywhere and the MPA himself came out of the destroyed motorcar, and local people rushed him to Lady Reading Hospital in a private vehicle. The blast destroyed his car.

Talking to media at the site of the blast, District Co-ordination Officer (DCO) Peshawar, Sahibzada Mohammad Anees said that suspected militants had planted the improvised explosive device under a culvert, which was detonated through a remote control at about 1 pm.

While an official of the bomb disposal squad said that the explosive, packed in a plastic shopping bag, weighed from 3 to 4 kilogram was planted in a sewerage line under a culvert, which was detonated at an estimated distance of 60 metres. Capital City Police Officer Peshawar Liaquat Ali Khan said that police had already started search operation in some areas and trying to arrest the militants. He said it was a targeted attack on the lawmaker.

A source in the LRH said that the injured persons were shifted to the hospital and three of them were discharged after giving them first aid while two persons, including the MPA were still under treatment. He said the lawmaker had undergone a minor operation at his left arm and his condition was stable. Aurang Zeb was elected in by-election on April 11 from the PF-1 as joint nominee of ANP and PPP-P after the death of his brother MPA Alamzeb Khan from the same constituency.

Aurangzeb Khan was killed in a bomb remote controlled explosion when he was on way from his residence to a function on Feb11, last year. During last two months it was second attack on Awami National Party MPAs, as another MPA from PF-83 Swat Dr Shamsher Ali Khan was blown up in a suicide blast at his residence at Dherai Swat on December 1st.
